Timed diagnostic

Before you take the assessment

This is a single timed sitting whose job is to produce an honest baseline. It is worth nothing if it is taken in pieces, so read these first.

  • It runs in full screen. The test takes over the screen when it starts, the way the real computer-based test does.
  • Leaving it is counted. Switching away is recorded and warned about; the third time, the paper is submitted for you.
  • The clock runs for 30 minutes. Set aside that long, uninterrupted. It starts when you begin, keeps running if you close the tab, and submits the paper at zero.
  • 2 timed sections. Each section has its own limit, and a section you have finished cannot be returned to.
  • On-screen calculator. The test provides one. Nothing else is needed, and nothing else is allowed.

About this test

About the SAT Assessment Test

The SAT Assessment Test on Aptitude360 is a free Digital SAT practice test with 30 questions to be completed in 30 minutes at a medium level, which is the typical real-paper level. Each correct answer earns +1 and there is no negative marking. The real SAT gives a scaled score instead. The test is in English and has two sections, Reading and Writing and Math.

Test pattern and marking

  • Reading and Writing: 16 questions, 15 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, no negative marking.
  • Math: 14 questions, 15 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, no negative marking. Three of these are typed-answer questions.

Each section has its own timer, and the section times add up to 30 minutes. Every multiple-choice question has 4 options.

Topics covered

Reading and Writing contains Reading Comprehension, Fill in the Blanks, Error Spotting and Sentence Improvement, with Reading Comprehension forming the largest share.

Math contains Algebra, Quadratic Equations, Percentage, Statistics, Probability, Trigonometry, Mensuration and Geometry, with Algebra appearing most often.

Every question shows its question type in square brackets at the top, for example [Standard English Conventions], [Words in Context], [Rhetorical Synthesis] and [Linear Equations], so you can see which part of the real exam pattern each question follows.

Key formulas to revise

  • Quadratic formula for \( ax^{2} + bx + c = 0 \), where \( a \neq 0 \): \( x = \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2} - 4ac}}{2a} \)
  • Percentage change, when the old value is not zero: \( \dfrac{\text{new} - \text{old}}{\text{old}} \times 100 \)
  • Mean of \( n \) values: \( \bar{x} = \dfrac{\sum x}{n} \)
  • Probability, for equally likely outcomes: \( P(E) = \dfrac{\text{favourable}}{\text{total}} \)
  • Trigonometric identity: \( \sin^{2}\theta + \cos^{2}\theta = 1 \)
  • Pythagoras theorem, where \( c \) is the hypotenuse of a right triangle: \( a^{2} + b^{2} = c^{2} \)

Who should take this test

This test suits students preparing for the Digital SAT who want a quick, timed check of their level across both sections. It also suits anyone who wants to practise managing a separate timer for each section at a medium difficulty.

How to use the solutions

Every question in this test has the correct answer and a short worked solution. When you review the solutions for this test, start with the questions you got wrong or guessed. Note the topic of each mistake, whether it is Error Spotting or Quadratic Equations, so you can see which areas need more practice. For Math questions, compare your working with the worked solution step by step to find where your method differed.
