Timed diagnostic

Before you take the assessment

This is a single timed sitting whose job is to produce an honest baseline. It is worth nothing if it is taken in pieces, so read these first.

  • It runs in full screen. The test takes over the screen when it starts, the way the real computer-based test does.
  • Leaving it is counted. Switching away is recorded and warned about; the third time, the paper is submitted for you.
  • The clock runs for 30 minutes. Set aside that long, uninterrupted. It starts when you begin, keeps running if you close the tab, and submits the paper at zero.
  • 3 timed sections. Each section has its own limit, and a section you have finished cannot be returned to.

About this test

About the GMAT Assessment Test

The GMAT Assessment Test on Aptitude360 is a free GMAT Focus Edition practice test with 30 questions in 30 minutes. It is set at medium difficulty, close to a typical real-paper level. Each correct answer earns +1 and there is no negative marking. The real GMAT, by contrast, gives a scaled adaptive score. Every question is a multiple-choice question with five options, and the test is in English.

Test pattern and marking

  • Quantitative Reasoning: 10 questions, 10 minutes, +1 per correct answer, no negative marking
  • Verbal Reasoning: 10 questions, 10 minutes, +1 per correct answer, no negative marking
  • Data Insights: 10 questions, 10 minutes, +1 per correct answer, no negative marking

Each section has its own timer, and the three section times add up to 30 minutes.

Topics covered

Quantitative Reasoning covers several areas:

  • Linear equations and exponents
  • Number properties and sequences
  • Percentages, ratios and rates
  • Mixtures, work and rate problems
  • Counting and probability
  • Statistics, including mean and median

Verbal Reasoning has two original GMAT-style reading passages of about 240 and 320 words on business, social science or science topics. These passages carry questions on primary purpose, application and inference. The section also has critical reasoning questions on assumption, strengthening, weakening, inference and evaluation.

Data Insights has all five real GMAT Data Insights question types, each labelled at the top of the question:

  • Data Sufficiency (DS): five questions with statements (1) and (2) and the five standard GMAT answer choices
  • Two-Part Analysis: one question with a selection for each of two columns
  • Table Analysis: one question on a regional sales table
  • Graphics Interpretation: one question on a bar chart of monthly sales
  • Multi-Source Reasoning: two questions that combine the sales table with an email

The Data Sufficiency questions touch on algebra, number system, profit and discount, and time, speed and distance.

Every question shows its question type in square brackets at the top, for example [Data Sufficiency], [Multi-Source Reasoning], [Two-Part Analysis] and [Graphics Interpretation], so you can see which part of the real exam pattern each question follows.

Key formulas to revise

  • AP nth term: \( a_{n} = a + (n-1)d \)
  • AP sum: \( S_{n} = \dfrac{n}{2}(2a + (n-1)d) \)
  • Two overlapping sets: \( n(A \cup B) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A \cap B) \)
  • Square of a sum: \( (x + y)^{2} = x^{2} + 2xy + y^{2} \)
  • Markup m%, then discount d%: \( SP = CP \times \dfrac{100+m}{100} \times \dfrac{100-d}{100} \)
  • Average speed over two equal distances: \( \dfrac{2xy}{x+y} \)

Who should take this test

This test suits GMAT Focus Edition aspirants who want a quick, timed check across all three sections. It is also useful for students who want to practise working at roughly one minute per question.

How to use the solutions

Every question in this test comes with the correct answer and a short worked solution. After you submit, go through the solution for each question in this test, including the ones you got right. Compare your method with the worked steps. Note which question types slowed you down or caused errors, and focus your further preparation on those areas.
