Timed diagnostic

Before you take the assessment

This is a single timed sitting whose job is to produce an honest baseline. It is worth nothing if it is taken in pieces, so read these first.

  • It runs in full screen. The test takes over the screen when it starts, the way the real computer-based test does.
  • Leaving it is counted. Switching away is recorded and warned about; the third time, the paper is submitted for you.
  • The clock runs for 30 minutes. Set aside that long, uninterrupted. It starts when you begin, keeps running if you close the tab, and submits the paper at zero.
  • 2 timed sections. Each section has its own limit, and a section you have finished cannot be returned to.
  • On-screen calculator. The test provides one. Nothing else is needed, and nothing else is allowed.

About this test

About the GRE Assessment Test

The GRE Assessment Test on Aptitude360 is a free, medium-level practice test for the GRE General Test with 30 questions in 30 minutes, scored at +1 for each correct answer with no negative marking. The difficulty is set at a typical real-paper level. Please note that the real GRE reports a scaled score, so your result here is a practice measure rather than an official GRE score.

Test pattern and marking

  • Verbal Reasoning: 15 questions, 15 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, no negative marking
  • Quantitative Reasoning: 15 questions, 15 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, no negative marking

Each section has its own timer, and the section times add up to 30 minutes. Quantitative Comparison questions have four options, the other multiple-choice questions have five, and three Quantitative Reasoning questions ask you to type your answer instead of choosing an option.

Topics covered

Verbal Reasoning has three Text Completion questions (two with one blank, one with two blanks), three Sentence Equivalence questions and nine Reading Comprehension questions. Each question shows its type at the top.

Quantitative Reasoning opens with five Quantitative Comparison questions and then covers Algebra, Geometry, a two-question Data Interpretation set on a table, Number System, Arithmetic Word Problems, Profit, Loss and Discount, Statistics and Probability.

Every question shows its question type in square brackets at the top, for example [Text Completion], [Sentence Equivalence], [Quantitative Comparison] and [Reading Comprehension], so you can see which part of the real exam pattern each question follows.

Key formulas to revise

  • Mean of n values: \( \bar{x} = \dfrac{\sum x}{n} \)
  • Probability with equally likely outcomes: \( P(E) = \dfrac{\text{favourable}}{\text{total}} \)
  • Profit percentage: \( \dfrac{SP - CP}{CP} \times 100 \)
  • Discount percentage: \( \dfrac{MP - SP}{MP} \times 100 \)
  • Pythagoras theorem for a right triangle: \( a^{2} + b^{2} = c^{2} \)
  • Square of a sum: \( (a+b)^{2} = a^{2} + 2ab + b^{2} \)

Who should take this test

This test suits GRE aspirants who want a quick, timed check of their verbal and quantitative skills at a medium level. It works well as a starting diagnostic or as a short revision session between longer study blocks, and it is entirely free in English.

How to use the solutions

Every question in this test comes with the correct answer and a short worked solution written for this test. After submitting, go through each solution, including the ones you got right, and note which topics took the most time. Revisit those topics on Aptitude360 before your next attempt.
