Timed diagnostic

Before you take the assessment

This is a single timed sitting whose job is to produce an honest baseline. It is worth nothing if it is taken in pieces, so read these first.

  • It runs in full screen. The test takes over the screen when it starts, the way the real computer-based test does.
  • Leaving it is counted. Switching away is recorded and warned about; the third time, the paper is submitted for you.
  • The clock runs for 30 minutes. Set aside that long, uninterrupted. It starts when you begin, keeps running if you close the tab, and submits the paper at zero.
  • 5 timed sections. Each section has its own limit, and a section you have finished cannot be returned to.

About this test

About the CLAT UG Assessment Test

The CLAT UG Assessment Test on Aptitude360 is a free practice test of 30 multiple-choice questions to be solved in 30 minutes. It is set at medium (typical real-paper) level, with +1 for each correct answer and −0.25 for each wrong answer. Each question has four options, the test is in English, and every question comes with the correct answer and a short worked solution.

Test pattern and marking

  • English Language: 6 questions, 6 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong answer
  • Current Affairs including General Knowledge: 7 questions, 7 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong answer
  • Legal Reasoning: 8 questions, 8 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong answer
  • Logical Reasoning: 6 questions, 6 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong answer
  • Quantitative Techniques: 3 questions, 3 minutes, +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong answer

On Aptitude360 each section has its own timer as a pacing aid, and the section times add up to 30 minutes. The real CLAT UG has no sectional time limit, so these section times are only a suggested pace.

Topics covered

  • English Language: reading comprehension.
  • Current Affairs including General Knowledge: polity.
  • Legal Reasoning: two legal passages, one on the law of torts (vicarious liability: course of employment, frolic, fraud, independent contractors) and one on the law of contract (offer, acceptance, revocation, counter-offer and lapse of an offer).
  • Logical Reasoning: two critical reasoning passages with three questions each (assumption, weakening, inference and agreement).
  • Quantitative Techniques: one question each on percentage, profit, loss and discount, and mixture and alligation.

Every question shows its question type in square brackets at the top, for example [Reading Comprehension], [Legal Reasoning (passage-based)], [Current Affairs & GK (passage-based)] and [Logical Reasoning (passage-based)], so you can see which part of the real exam pattern each question follows.

Key formulas to revise

  • Percentage of a number: \( x\% \text{ of } A = \dfrac{x}{100} \times A \)
  • Percentage change, from old value O to new value V: \( \dfrac{V - O}{O} \times 100 \)
  • Profit percentage, on cost price: \( \dfrac{SP - CP}{CP} \times 100 \)
  • Discount percentage, on marked price: \( \dfrac{MP - SP}{MP} \times 100 \)
  • Alligation rule: \( \dfrac{Q_{1}}{Q_{2}} = \dfrac{d - m}{m - c} \). Here Q₁ is the quantity at the cheaper price c, Q₂ is the quantity at the dearer price d, and m is the mean price of the mixture, with c < m < d.

Who should take this test

This test suits CLAT UG aspirants who want a quick, timed check across all five sections in one sitting. It is also useful for students who want to practise reading comprehension, legal reasoning passages and basic quantitative techniques under exam-style negative marking.

How to use the solutions

The solutions are written for the questions in this test. After you submit, compare each answer with the correct option and read the short worked solution, especially for questions you got wrong or guessed. Note which sections cost you marks through the −0.25 penalty, then revise those topics before your next attempt on Aptitude360.
