Timed diagnostic

Before you take the assessment

This is a single timed sitting whose job is to produce an honest baseline. It is worth nothing if it is taken in pieces, so read these first.

  • It runs in full screen. The test takes over the screen when it starts, the way the real computer-based test does.
  • Leaving it is counted. Switching away is recorded and warned about; the third time, the paper is submitted for you.
  • The clock runs for 30 minutes. Set aside that long, uninterrupted. It starts when you begin, keeps running if you close the tab, and submits the paper at zero.
  • 3 timed sections. Each section has its own limit, and a section you have finished cannot be returned to.
  • On-screen calculator. The test provides one. Nothing else is needed, and nothing else is allowed.

About this test

About the CAT Assessment Test

The CAT Assessment Test on Aptitude360 is a free, medium-level practice test with 30 questions in 30 minutes, marked at +3 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong MCQ, with no negative marking on typed-answer questions. The difficulty is set at a typical real-paper level. The marking follows the pattern described in IIM CAT bulletins. MCQs have 4 options each, and the test is in English.

Test pattern and marking

  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension: 10 questions, 10 minutes, +3 for correct and −1 for wrong (3 typed-answer questions with no negative marking)
  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: 10 questions, 10 minutes, +3 for correct and −1 for wrong (2 typed-answer questions with no negative marking)
  • Quantitative Ability: 10 questions, 10 minutes, +3 for correct and −1 for wrong (3 typed-answer questions with no negative marking)

Each section has its own timer; the section times add up to 30 minutes.

Topics covered

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension has four Reading Comprehension questions on one passage, two Para Summary, two Para Jumbles, one Odd Sentence Out and one Sentence Placement question. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning has 5 Data Interpretation questions followed by 5 Puzzles. Quantitative Ability covers Profit and Loss, Time, Speed and Distance, Mixture and Alligation, Quadratic Equations, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Number System, and Permutation and Combination.

Every question shows its question type in square brackets at the top, for example [Para Jumble (TITA: type your answer)], [Odd Sentence Out (TITA: type your answer)], [Data Interpretation (set)] and [Logical Reasoning Set], so you can see which part of the real exam pattern each question follows.

Key formulas to revise

  • Speed: \( \text{Speed} = \dfrac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Time}} \)
  • Profit percentage: \( \dfrac{\text{SP} - \text{CP}}{\text{CP}} \times 100 \)
  • Quadratic roots of \( ax^{2}+bx+c=0 \), \( a \neq 0 \): \( x = \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}}{2a} \)
  • Combinations: \( ^{n}C_{r} = \dfrac{n!}{r!\,(n-r)!} \)
  • Area of a circle: \( \pi r^{2} \)
  • Percentage change in DI: \( \dfrac{\text{New} - \text{Old}}{\text{Old}} \times 100 \)

Who should take this test

This test suits CAT aspirants who want a quick, timed check across all three sections. It is useful for practising section-wise time limits and judging when to attempt or skip a question under negative marking.

How to use the solutions

Every question in this test has the correct answer and a short worked solution. After you finish, review the solutions for this test question by question, note the topics where you lost marks, and revise the relevant formulas before your next attempt on Aptitude360.
