Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 30-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 30 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Units and Measurement Level 2 Practice Quiz on Dimensions and Derived Units

Level 2 of the Units and Measurement GK series builds the skill of matching physical quantities to their SI units, prefixes and dimensions. Questions use match-the-list, ordering, odd-one-out and statement formats on base and derived units, astronomical distances and atomic-scale lengths. Every answer on Aptitude360 comes with an explanation, so you can see the reasoning behind each unit relation.

What this Level 2 units and measurement quiz tests

  • Correct pairing of base quantities with their SI units and unit symbols
  • Telling base units from derived units, and spotting non-SI or derived units in odd-one-out questions
  • Derived units for force, work, pressure, power and frequency
  • Ordering prefixes such as nano, milli, kilo and mega by value
  • Arranging lengths from fermi and angstrom up to astronomical unit, light year and parsec
  • Dimensional formulas of force, velocity and work, and the need for standard units

Key formulas and dimension rules for Level 2

  • Dimensions of velocity: \( [\text{L}\text{T}^{-1}] \)
  • Dimensions of work and energy: \( [\text{M}\text{L}^{2}\text{T}^{-2}] \)
  • Fermi: \( 1\,\text{fm}=10^{-15}\,\text{m} \)
  • Angstrom: \( 1\,\mathring{\text{A}}=10^{-10}\,\text{m} \)
  • Unified atomic mass unit: \( 1\,\text{u}=\dfrac{1}{12}\times m_{\text{C-12}} \)

How to prepare for ordering and matching questions on units

  • Remember the large-distance ladder: astronomical unit, then light year, then parsec
  • Derive a dimensional formula from the defining equation, such as force equals mass times acceleration, instead of memorising it
  • Practise rewriting derived units in base units, which helps eliminate wrong options in matching questions

Who should take this intermediate set

It is meant for General Awareness Physics learners who have finished the basics and want firmer command of unit relations, dimensions and ordering questions.

FAQs about Units and Measurement – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 2

What is the difference between base units and derived units?
Base units are the independent units of the seven fundamental quantities, such as the metre and kilogram. Derived units, such as the newton and joule, are formed by combining base units.
What is the dimensional formula of work?
Work equals force multiplied by displacement, so its dimensional formula is mass to the power one, length to the power two and time to the power minus two. Energy has the same dimensions.
What is a parsec?
A parsec is a unit of astronomical distance equal to about 3.26 light years. It is larger than both the astronomical unit and the light year.
What is one unified atomic mass unit?
One unified atomic mass unit is one twelfth of the mass of a single carbon-12 atom. It is used to express the masses of atoms and molecules.
