Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 25-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 25 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Inventions and Discoveries GK Quiz Level 1: Scientists and Landmark Findings

Matching landmark discoveries to the scientists behind them is the core skill this Level 1 Inventions and Discoveries GK quiz builds. It covers medicine, physics and biology, from vaccines and insulin to X-rays, radioactivity, atomic particles and the transistor. Aptitude360 explains every answer so the name, discovery and Nobel Prize link stays clear.

Discoveries covered in this Level 1 GK set

  • Medicine: Jenner's smallpox vaccine, Fleming's penicillin, Banting and Macleod's insulin, Ronald Ross's work on malaria in mosquitoes
  • Physics: Röntgen's X-rays, Becquerel's radioactivity from uranium salts, Einstein's photoelectric effect
  • Atomic particles and chemistry: Thomson's electron, Chadwick's neutron, the Curies' polonium and radium, Mendeleev's periodic table
  • Biology: Hooke's cork cells in Micrographia, Robert Brown's cell nucleus, Watson and Crick's DNA structure
  • Communication and electronics: Marconi and Braun's wireless telegraphy, the transistor of Bardeen, Brattain and Shockley

Key concepts to revise for inventions and discoveries

  • Shared Nobel Prizes, such as Wilkins alongside Watson and Crick
  • Einstein's Nobel Prize was for the photoelectric effect, not relativity
  • The basis of Mendeleev's table was atomic mass
  • Marie Curie's Chemistry Nobel for polonium and radium

How to revise this topic

  • Keep a table with columns for scientist, discovery, field and Nobel Prize year
  • Revise discoveries field by field so similar names do not mix up

Who this quiz suits

Beginners preparing the general awareness section of SSC, banking and other competitive exams who want a first pass at science history.

FAQs about Inventions and Discoveries – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 1

What is the difference between an invention and a discovery?
A discovery finds something that already exists in nature, such as the electron or X-rays. An invention creates something new that did not exist before, such as the transistor.
Who discovered penicillin?
Penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945 for this work.
Who discovered X-rays?
Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-rays in 1895. He received the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
Why did Einstein get the Nobel Prize?
Albert Einstein received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. It was not awarded for his theory of relativity.
