Timed diagnostic

Before you take the assessment

This is a single timed sitting whose job is to produce an honest baseline. It is worth nothing if it is taken in pieces, so read these first.

  • It runs in full screen. The test takes over the screen when it starts, the way the real computer-based test does.
  • Leaving it is counted. Switching away is recorded and warned about; the third time, the paper is submitted for you.
  • The clock runs for 30 minutes. Set aside that long, uninterrupted. It starts when you begin, keeps running if you close the tab, and submits the paper at zero.
  • 4 timed sections. Each section has its own limit, and a section you have finished cannot be returned to.

About this test

About the SSC CGL Assessment Test

The SSC CGL Assessment Test is a free mock test with 30 questions in 30 minutes. It is set at medium (typical real-paper) level and marked at +2 for each correct answer and −0.50 for each wrong answer, following the SSC CGL Tier 1 notice. Every question is a multiple-choice question with four options, and the test is in English. Each of the four sections has its own timer, and the section times add up to 30 minutes.

Test pattern and marking

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 8 questions, 8 minutes, +2 / −0.5
  • General Awareness: 7 questions, 7 minutes, +2 / −0.5
  • Quantitative Aptitude: 8 questions, 8 minutes, +2 / −0.5
  • English Comprehension: 7 questions, 7 minutes, +2 / −0.5

Topics covered

Reasoning includes analogy, classification, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, order and ranking, number series and alphanumeric series. General Awareness covers static history, geography, polity, economy, physics, chemistry and biology. Quantitative Aptitude has questions on algebra, average, geometry, mensuration, simple and compound interest, time and work, time, speed and distance, and trigonometry. English tests synonyms and antonyms, error spotting, idioms, one-word substitution and a cloze test (a passage with three blanks).

Every question shows its question type in square brackets at the top, for example [Cloze Test], [Analogy], [Classification] and [Series], so you can see which part of the real exam pattern each question follows.

Key formulas to revise

  • CI − SI for 2 years, compounded annually: \(P\left(\dfrac{R}{100}\right)^{2}\)
  • Algebra identity: \(x^{2}+\dfrac{1}{x^{2}}=\left(x+\dfrac{1}{x}\right)^{2}-2\)
  • Cone slant height: \(l=\sqrt{r^{2}+h^{2}}\)
  • Cone curved surface area: \(\pi r l\)
  • Angle at incentre: \(\angle BIC=90^{\circ}+\dfrac{\angle A}{2}\)
  • Heights and distances: \(\tan\theta=\dfrac{\text{height}}{\text{distance}}\)

Who should take this test

This test suits SSC CGL Tier 1 aspirants who want a short, timed check across the four sections and the topics listed above. It is also useful for practising sectional time limits and deciding when to skip a question under negative marking.

How to use the solutions

Every question in this test comes with the correct answer and a short worked solution. After you submit, go through each wrong or guessed answer on Aptitude360. Note the topic, and revise the method before your next attempt.
