Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 30-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 30 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Sound and Waves GK Quiz Level 2: Speed of Sound, Echo and Ultrasound

Working through this Level 2 Sound and Waves GK quiz helps you check whether you can apply sound basics to statement, matching and ordering questions. It covers the speed of sound in different media, frequency ranges, echo, reverberation, ultrasound and SONAR. Every question on Aptitude360 comes with a written solution to explain the reasoning.

Concepts tested in the Level 2 sound set

  • Motion of air particles in a longitudinal wave and why a vacuum blocks sound
  • Ranking steel, water and air by the speed of sound, and the effect of temperature on speed
  • Pairing pitch with frequency and loudness with amplitude
  • Arranging infrasound, audible sound and ultrasound by frequency, and odd-one-out frequency items
  • Echo formation sequence, persistence of hearing and reverberation in halls
  • Echolocation in bats, SONAR on ships and medical uses of ultrasound

Sound ideas to be clear on at this level

  • Who can hear a high-frequency whistle: adults, young children or dogs
  • What changes and what stays the same when a vibrating object is struck harder
  • Which property of sound depends on the medium and which does not
  • The common principle behind bat navigation and SONAR

Revision tips for sound and waves

  • Practise reading each statement separately, since many items mix one true and one false claim
  • Draw a frequency line showing infrasound, the human hearing range and ultrasound
  • Revise the steps of an echo in order: vibration, travel, reflection and hearing

Who should take this level

Students who have cleared the basics of sound and want medium-level General Awareness practice in exam-style formats will find this level a useful next step.

FAQs about Sound and Waves – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 2

In which medium does sound travel fastest?
Sound travels fastest in solids, slower in liquids and slowest in gases. For example, it moves faster through steel than through water, and faster through water than through air.
Does the speed of sound increase with temperature?
Yes. In a given medium such as air, the speed of sound increases as the temperature rises.
What is the difference between echo and reverberation?
An echo is a reflected sound heard distinctly after the original sound. Reverberation is the persistence of sound in a large hall caused by repeated reflections from the walls.
How do bats use ultrasound?
Bats send out ultrasonic squeaks and detect the waves reflected from obstacles and insects. This echolocation lets them fly and hunt in the dark, the same principle SONAR uses under water.

What you get when you submit

The analysis is ready the moment you submit the paper.

Score and accuracy

Marks, percentage, right, wrong and skipped, and the time you took.

Section by section

The same figures for each section, so a weak one cannot hide in an average.
