Selection process

How candidates are shortlisted and admitted after the IPMAT Indore results.

The selection process at the Indian Institute of Management Indore is multi-stage and remains highly competitive as, among the thousands of applicants, around 150 students are finally admitted to the IPM batch.

Round 1: IPMAT Aptitude Test

Admission begins with the computer-based IPMAT examination.

1. Sectional Cutoffs: Candidates must clear minimum cutoffs in all three sections —

  • QA (SA)
  • QA (MCQ)
  • Verbal Ability.

2. Positive Raw Score Requirement: A valid score in each section is mandatory for consideration.

3. Disqualification Rule: Failing to meet even one sectional cutoff leads to elimination, regardless of overall score.

Round 2: Calculation of Aptitude Test Score (ATS)

Candidates who clear sectional cutoffs are ranked using a scaled score called the Aptitude Test Score (ATS). Under this, section-wise raw scores are scaled and altogether these scaled scores are combined to calculate the total ATS. The maximum ATS one can have is 100. This is a hybrid version of percentile and percentage. Now this ATS will be used in shortlisting students for the Personal Interview.

Round 3: Personal Interview (PI)

Candidates shortlisted through ATS are invited for the Personal Interview, where they are judged on parameters like

  • Academic knowledge (especially Class 11–12 Mathematics)
  • General Awareness
  • Communication Skills
  • Overall Suitability
  • Leadership Potential

Although there is no equal distribution of marks among these parameters, panels' choice can decide the number of questions. Interestingly, the final merit will be announced on the composite score of PI and ATS, but in case of underperformance, the panel can reject a student even at the PI level.

Final Selection: Composite Score (CS)

Composite Score (CS) is calculated as follows:

Component

Weightage

Aptitude Test Score (ATS)

65%

Personal Interview (PI)

35%

Total

100%

And based on this, IIM Indore releases its merit list along with a waitlist for the Five Year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). To confirm admission, students must pay the admission fee within the prescribed time, usually a year. If students on the merit list decline admission, the waitlist moves accordingly.
