Overview
Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test is a national-level entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency for the 5-year integrated programme in management at IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. Under this, students get dual degrees: BBA + MBA. However, there is an exit option post 3 years under certain conditions.
Compared to the traditional path of taking the CAT for an IIM tag, JIPMAT offers a less competitive and comparatively easier route to achieving that same IIM goal.
Why JIPMAT? The Gateway to Early Leadership
JIPMAT provides admission to two of the premier institutes of management in the country, the "Baby IIMs": IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu.
JIPMAT simplifies the academic journey for students; by clearing this single exam, both their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are secured. It is also a comparatively easier path; unlike the CAT, where competition is much higher (roughly 3,00,000 students appear for CAT, while only 25,000–30,000 appear for JIPMAT), the barrier to entry is lower. Furthermore, admission through JIPMAT is primarily based on the test score itself. In contrast, the CAT selection process involves several volatile factors such as past academics, overall profile, Personal Interviews (PI), Written Ability Tests (WAT), and Group Discussions (GD), making JIPMAT a much more stable option for aspirants.
Program Overview & The "Exit Option"
The entire curriculum is divided into two parts: three years of BBA and two years of MBA, with a distinct focus on each phase. Social internships are a key component of the BBA phase; at IIM Jammu, this occurs at the end of the 3rd semester, while at IIM Bodh Gaya, it takes place at the end of the 2nd trimester.
The curriculum is strict, and students are expected to maintain academic discipline.
Criteria for Promotion and the MBA Exit Option: Promotion to the MBA phase is subject to specific academic conditions:
- IIM Jammu: If you attain a GPA of 6.0 or higher, you have the option to either continue into the MBA program or exit with a BBA degree. However, if you fail to achieve a 6.0 GPA, you will be required to exit the program with the BBA degree.
- IIM Bodh Gaya: You must attain a GPA of more than 5.5 to continue into the MBA program.
Interestingly, IIM Bodh Gaya offers an additional opportunity: students scoring between 5.0 and 5.5 have the option to repeat the third year to reach the minimum eligibility marks. However, if a student at IIM Bodh Gaya fails to maintain a 5.0 GPA in any given year, they will not be eligible for promotion to the next year.
Eligibility Criteria
JIPMAT is open to all students across all streams—Science, Arts, and Commerce—and across various boards, such as State Boards, CBSE, IGCSE, and IB, provided they have met a certain percentage and are under the age of 20.

Selection Process
JIPMAT follows a merit-based admission process where IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya release their individual merit lists, followed by subsequent waiting lists.
IIM Jammu
IIM Jammu releases its merit list based on a composite score, which is calculated as follows:
- JIPMAT Score: 70%
- Class 10th Marks: 15%
- Class 12th Marks: 15%
- Gender Diversity: Female candidates receive an additional 5% weightage (or 5 marks) toward their final score.
IIM Bodh Gaya
IIM Bodh Gaya relies solely on the JIPMAT score for its merit list and does not use a bonus point system. Instead, they reserve 30% of their seats specifically for female candidates (Supernumerary Girls seats) to ensure gender diversity.
Tie-Breaking Criteria
In the event of a tie, IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Jammu uses the following hierarchical criteria. A student scoring higher in an earlier step will be ranked higher:
1. Overall JIPMAT Score
2. VARC Section Score

4. DILR Section Score

Is the Program Worth It?
If we consider the benefits of avoiding "CAT anxiety," securing an IIM seat early, and the academic value of a premier institute, then this is a strong programme. You will have top-tier facilities at your service and the opportunity to interact with MBA students who entered through the CAT. This interaction provides a unique perspective on the level of competition in the outside world.
However, if we evaluate the worth of this programme solely based on Return on Investment (ROI) and fees, the perspective changes. It can be difficult to have complete career clarity immediately after the 12th standard. For students with strong academics who wish to attempt the CAT to get into higher-ranked IIMs, spending nearly ₹20 lakh on a BBA may not make financial sense.
Beyond this, the placement statistics are a significant consideration. Although official reports declare 100% placements, unofficial figures often present a different picture. Even according to official sources, an average CTC of roughly ₹14 lakh is a modest return on a total investment of approximately ₹40 lakh. Lastly, the first IPM batches are only set to graduate in 2026, meaning current ROI figures are somewhat speculative, as the long-term value addition of this five-year programme is yet to be fully realized.
Overall, JIPMAT is a great option for students seeking a secure career path and an IIM brand name with clear MBA aspirations. However, for students who are still exploring their options—especially those under financial constraints—this path requires careful consideration.
What Makes Our JIPMAT Coaching Different in Chandigarh
Most coaching institutes preparing students for JIPMAT are running on a one size fit all approach, where no specialized focus on each student is given and this brings varied results.
We follow the GTA Model — Guide, Train, Achieve.
Amit Sir personally reviews and guides every student and provides continuous handholding throughout the preparation journey. The entire learning process is designed to be engaging and enjoyable rather than monotonous and stressful, which ultimately leads to better performance and achievement.
How We Prepare Students for JIPMAT at Our Coaching Centre in Chandigarh
At our institute, Amit Sir has developed a structured JIPMAT coaching methodology built over 10 years of tracking what actually works. Our JIPMAT 2026 preparation program is not a generic aptitude course offered by most institutes; rather, it is developed on the RE Model, i.e., the Requirement and Empowerment Model. The basic requirements of the exam are treated as the foundation upon which students are empowered.
Our JIPMAT Preparation Framework
Phase 1 — Foundation (Months 1–2)
- Concept rebuilding for Quantitative Aptitude (QA) using Class 9–11 fundamentals
- Grammar rules and comprehension basics for VARC
- Introductory sets for DILR (Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation)
- Individual assessment of every student to identify weak areas from day one
Phase 2 — Application (Months 3–4)
- Topic-wise timed practice sessions
- Sectional mock tests
- Weekly DILR workshops
- Live problem-solving classes by Amit Sir focused on common JIPMAT question patterns
Phase 3 — Exam Simulation (Months 5–6)
- Full-length JIPMAT mock tests under actual exam conditions (150 minutes)
- Detailed post-mock analysis for every student
- Cutoff-targeted score planning based on performance trends
- Personalised correction plans for students scoring below their target range
Weekly Current Affairs & Vocabulary Building
Although JIPMAT does not directly test General Knowledge, strong vocabulary and reading speed significantly improve VARC performance.
Our weekly reading and vocabulary sessions help students improve:
- Reading comprehension speed
- Word usage and contextual understanding
- Accuracy in verbal ability questions
This consistently contributes to an improvement of 10–15 marks in VARC for many students.
