Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 35-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 35 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Matter and its States GK Level 3 Quiz: State Changes, Mixtures and Colloids

This is Level 3 of the Matter and its States General Awareness chemistry series on Aptitude360. It covers changes of state, latent heat, evaporation, mixtures, colloids, temperature scales and separation techniques. Most items use statement-based and match-the-list formats, and every answer comes with an explanation.

Topics tested in this Matter and its States Level 3 set

  • Particle nature of matter: interparticle attraction and kinetic energy in solids, liquids and gases
  • Fusion, sublimation, deposition and condensation, and which changes reverse each other
  • Latent heat of fusion and vaporisation, and why temperature stays constant during a change of state
  • Evaporation versus boiling, factors affecting evaporation rate and evaporative cooling
  • Celsius to kelvin conversion and ordering temperatures across both scales
  • Solutions, colloids and suspensions, alloys as solid solutions and the Tyndall effect
  • Separation methods: chromatography, centrifugation, separating funnel, fractional distillation and crystallisation
  • Other states such as plasma in neon signs and Bose-Einstein Condensate

Key concepts to revise on states of matter

  • Camphor, naphthalene and ammonium chloride sublime, and frost forms by deposition
  • Evaporation is a surface process below the boiling point, while boiling happens throughout the liquid
  • Colloid particles are invisible to the naked eye but scatter light, while suspension particles settle
  • Elements and compounds are pure substances, while air and milk are mixtures

Revision tips for matter and mixtures questions

  • Make a single chart of every change of state with its reverse to handle match-the-list items quickly
  • Practise Celsius and kelvin conversions mentally by adding or subtracting the fixed offset
  • Pair each separation technique with one textbook example, such as cream with centrifugation

Who this Level 3 set is for

General Awareness aspirants who have already covered the basics of matter and want a tougher, statement-heavy round of revision.

FAQs about Matter and its States – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 3

What is matter and its states?
Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. Its common states are solid, liquid and gas, and plasma and Bose-Einstein Condensate are also recognised as states of matter.
What is sublimation with examples?
Sublimation is the change of a solid directly into a gas without becoming a liquid. Camphor, naphthalene and ammonium chloride are common examples, and the reverse process is called deposition.
What is the Tyndall effect?
The Tyndall effect is the scattering of a beam of light by colloidal particles, which makes the path of the beam visible. Sunlight streaming through a dense forest canopy is a common example.
How do you convert Celsius to kelvin?
Add 273.15 to the Celsius temperature to get kelvin, often rounded to 273. Kelvin is the SI unit of temperature.
