Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 25-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 25 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Matter and its States GK Quiz Level 1: Basic Chemistry Practice Questions

Matter and its States Level 1 is a basic General Awareness chemistry quiz on the states of matter, changes of state, evaporation, latent heat, mixtures and separation methods. Aptitude360 built this set around simple everyday examples such as naphthalene balls, milk, mist and the earthen matka.

What this Level 1 states of matter quiz covers

  • Particle attraction, spacing and kinetic energy in solids, liquids and gases
  • Plasma and Bose-Einstein condensate as further states of matter
  • Melting, sublimation of naphthalene, and changing state through temperature or pressure
  • Kelvin as the SI unit of temperature and simple Celsius to kelvin conversion
  • Evaporation as a surface phenomenon, cooling in a matka, and latent heat
  • Solutions, colloids and suspensions, the Tyndall effect, and separation by funnel, centrifuge, crystallisation and fractional distillation

Core concepts of matter to revise

  • Evaporation happens at the surface, while boiling happens throughout the liquid
  • Factors that speed up or slow down evaporation, such as temperature, surface area, humidity and wind
  • Colloids such as milk and mist, and light scattering by particles in forest air
  • Pure substances versus mixtures, with alloys and air as mixtures

Tips for learning states of matter

  • Link each separation method to one familiar example, such as butter from cream by centrifugation
  • Remember that adding a fixed value converts Celsius to kelvin, and practise a few conversions by hand
  • Sort examples into solution, colloid and suspension by particle size and whether they settle

Who this quiz suits

Beginners revising science GK for competitive exams, and school students who want a quick check of matter basics before moving to harder levels.

FAQs about Matter and its States – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 1

What is matter and its states?
Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. It commonly exists as solid, liquid and gas, and scientists also describe plasma and Bose-Einstein condensate as states of matter.
What is sublimation with example?
Sublimation is the change of a solid directly into a gas without becoming a liquid. Camphor, naphthalene balls, iodine and dry ice are common examples.
Why does water stay cool in a matka?
Water seeps through the tiny pores of the earthen pot and evaporates from its outer surface. Evaporation takes heat from the pot and the water inside, so the water cools.
What is latent heat?
Latent heat is the heat absorbed or released during a change of state without any change in temperature. Latent heat of fusion relates to melting and latent heat of vaporisation relates to a liquid turning into gas.
