Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 25-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 25 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Atomic Structure GK Level 1 Quiz: Basics of Atoms with Answers

This Level 1 Atomic Structure quiz builds the core concepts of General Awareness chemistry: early atomic ideas, the discovery of sub-atomic particles, atomic models, and the ideas of atomic number and mass number. Aptitude360 explains every answer, so each question also works as a quick revision note for beginners.

What this Atomic Structure Level 1 set covers

  • Kanad's idea of Parmanu and Dalton's atomic theory
  • Laws of conservation of mass and definite proportions with the scientists linked to them
  • Discovery of the electron by Thomson, the neutron by Chadwick and the nucleus by Rutherford
  • Charge and relative mass of electrons, protons and neutrons
  • Thomson's watermelon model, Rutherford's scattering experiment and Bohr's fixed shells
  • Atomic number, mass number, isotopes, isobars and the electron capacity of K, L, M and N shells
  • Uses of isotopes in cancer treatment and nuclear reactors, atomic mass unit and the mole

Key concepts for atomic structure basics

  • An element is identified by its atomic number, which equals the number of protons
  • Mass number is the total of protons and neutrons in the nucleus
  • Isotopes share an atomic number, while isobars share a mass number
  • Rutherford used alpha particles, and his model could not explain the stability of the atom

How to revise atomic structure for GK

  • Keep a three-column table of each particle with its discoverer, charge and relative mass
  • Learn the atomic models in the order they were proposed, along with one flaw of each
  • Memorise the maximum electron capacity of the first four shells using the shell-capacity rule

Who this set is for

Students starting General Awareness chemistry for competitive exams who want a first, basics-level pass through atomic structure.

FAQs about Atomic Structure – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 1

What is atomic structure?
Atomic structure describes how an atom is built: a small, dense nucleus of protons and neutrons, with electrons moving in shells around it.
What is the difference between isotopes and isobars?
Isotopes are atoms of the same element with the same atomic number but different mass numbers. Isobars are atoms of different elements with the same mass number.
Who discovered the electron, proton and neutron?
J. J. Thomson discovered the electron, and E. Goldstein's canal ray experiments led to the discovery of the proton. James Chadwick discovered the neutron.
What is the formula for the maximum number of electrons in a shell?
The maximum number of electrons in a shell is two times n squared, where n is the shell number. So the K, L, M and N shells hold up to 2, 8, 18 and 32 electrons.
