Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 30-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 30 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Common Names and Formulas GK Practice Quiz Level 2 with Answers

Telling apart compounds that look alike, such as gypsum and Plaster of Paris or water gas and producer gas, is the skill this Level 2 GK quiz on common names and chemical formulas builds. Aptitude360 uses statement, odd-one-out, ordering and match-the-list questions here, so plain recall is not enough.

Topics in this Level 2 chemical names quiz

  • The calcium chain: quick lime to slaked lime to limestone, plus the forms of calcium carbonate
  • Gypsum, Plaster of Paris, Epsom salt and washing soda compared by their water of crystallisation
  • Soda ash versus washing soda, and baking soda's chemical name with its formula
  • Bleaching powder, milk of lime and milk of magnesia
  • Heavy water, dry ice, water gas and producer gas
  • Ores of lead, mercury, zinc, iron and copper with their formulas

Key concepts for comparison-style questions

  • Sorting compounds by their parent metal: sodium, calcium or magnesium
  • Classifying ores as oxides or sulphides
  • Identifying ores that come from the same metal, such as zinc blende and calamine
  • Recognising a mixture of gases as opposed to a single compound

Revision tips for chemical common names

  • Rank the hydrated salts by their number of water molecules and say the order aloud
  • Keep a two-column list of ore and metal, then add the formula as a third column
  • Spot the shared gas first when you compare fuel gas mixtures

Who this quiz is for

It suits General Awareness aspirants who have finished the basics and want to practise exam-style comparison questions on chemical names.

FAQs about Common Names and Chemical Formulas – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 2
