Normal practice, or a Simulated test
The same questions, either way. Normal practice teaches; the simulated test tells you where you stand.
Normal
UntimedEvery question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.
- No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
- Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
- Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
- Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Simulated
Timed CBTThe computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.
- A clock that does not pause. 75 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
- Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
- Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
- Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.
About this test
This section is the gateway to the XAT exam, setting the tone for the paper with its diverse and abstract content. In the real 2025 exam, this section was rated moderate to difficult due to the closeness of options in the reading sets.
Syllabus & Core Topics: The 2025 paper stood out for its eclectic mix of subjects, moving away from standard business topics to humanities and psychology:
Reading Comprehension (RC): There were 4 primary passages (3 questions each) covering dense themes:
"Meritocracy is a Myth": A sociological argument on structural inequality.
"Greedy Work & Gender Norms": Discussing the pay gap and specialization.
"Psychology of Humor": Exploring emotional detachment and "anesthesia of the heart."
"Biology & In-group/Out-group": A scientific look at human social behavior.
Poem-Based Comprehension: A signature XAT feature, the 2025 exam included a poem by Sujata Bhatt titled "You Walk into This Room", requiring candidates to interpret metaphors about energy and tension.
Critical Reasoning (CR): 7 questions total, including a surprise Cartoon Strip question that tested visual interpretation of a dialogue, alongside standard assumption and conclusion questions.
Verbal Ability: A smaller component comprising Grammar (identifying correct/incorrect sentences), Para Jumbles (logical ordering), and Fill in the Blanks (vocabulary context).
Exam Pattern & Marking:
Total Questions: 26.
Scoring: +1 mark for correct answers, -0.25 marks for incorrect answers.
Difficulty Factor: The section is known for "subjective" options where two answers often seem correct, requiring candidates to strictly adhere to the author's tone and logic.
