Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 35-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 35 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Plate Tectonics, Volcanoes and Earthquakes GK Practice Quiz Level 3

This Level 3 geography quiz tests the finer points of plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes, from Wegener's continental drift theory to the formation of the Himalayas. It checks statement-based reasoning, list matching and chronological ordering of events in Earth's history. Aptitude360 gives every question a written explanation, so you can see why each option is right or wrong.

Topics covered in this plate tectonics and volcanoes set

  • Continental drift: Pangaea, Panthalassa and its split into Laurasia and Gondwanaland
  • Plate tectonics theory of McKenzie, Parker and Morgan and how it followed Wegener's idea
  • Divergent, convergent and transform plate boundaries, mid-oceanic ridges and the Indian plate
  • Shield, composite and caldera volcanoes, flood basalt and the Deccan Traps
  • Focus and epicentre, seismographs, and the Richter and Mercalli scales
  • Endogenic and exogenic forces, the Bhuj earthquake and the Himalayan collision

Key geography concepts to revise for Level 3

  • Which supercontinent fragment lay in the north and which in the south
  • Magnitude as energy released versus intensity as visible damage
  • How lava fluidity decides volcano shape and eruption style
  • Chronological order of drift theory, plate tectonics and major Indian earthquakes

Revision tips for volcanoes and earthquakes questions

  • Make a three-column table of volcano type, lava nature and a real example such as Hawaii
  • Pair each scale or instrument with what it measures before attempting match-the-list items
  • Read every statement for swapped terms, such as focus and epicentre or Laurasia and Gondwanaland

Who should take this geography quiz

Aspirants preparing General Awareness for government and competitive exams who have finished the basics of physical geography and want harder, statement-based practice.

FAQs about Plate Tectonics, Volcanoes and Earthquakes – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 3

How does plate tectonics cause volcanoes and earthquakes?
Earth's lithosphere is broken into moving plates. When plates pull apart, collide or slide past each other, stress builds and is released as earthquakes, and magma rising at boundaries feeds volcanoes.
What are the three types of plate boundaries?
At divergent boundaries plates move apart and new crust forms. At convergent boundaries plates move towards each other and one may sink below the other. At transform boundaries plates slide past each other horizontally.
What is the difference between the Richter scale and the Mercalli scale?
The Richter scale measures the magnitude of an earthquake, that is, the energy released. The Mercalli scale measures intensity, based on the visible damage and effects felt at a place.
What is the difference between focus and epicentre?
The focus is the point inside the Earth where the earthquake movement starts. The epicentre is the point on the surface directly above the focus, and damage is usually greatest near it.
