Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 30-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 30 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Earth's Motions, Latitude and Longitude GK Quiz Level 2 Practice Set

This is Level 2 of the Earth's Motions, Latitude, Longitude and Time series on Aptitude360, a medium-level General Awareness geography set. It mixes concept questions on seasons, heat zones and solstices with local time and IST conversions based on longitude. Every question comes with an explanation.

Question areas in this Level 2 geography set

  • Why seasons follow from revolution with a fixed tilt of the axis
  • Heat zones and placing a given latitude in the correct zone
  • Conditions on the solstices and equinoxes in each hemisphere
  • Greenwich, the Prime Meridian and the hemispheres it creates
  • Converting Greenwich time into local time and IST
  • Working out the longitude gap between two places from their time difference

Key concepts for medium-level questions

  • The Earth turns through a full circle in about a day, so each degree of longitude adds a fixed time gap
  • India's standard meridian passes near Mirzapur, which is why IST runs ahead of GMT
  • Statement and odd one out questions often turn on hemisphere, heat zone or solstice details

Preparation tips for longitude and time questions

  • Add time for places east of Greenwich and subtract it for places west
  • In odd one out questions, check the hemisphere and heat zone first
  • Keep the solstices and equinoxes on a calendar line for sequence questions

Who should take Level 2

GK aspirants who know the basic lines and motions of the Earth and now want statement, matching and time calculation practice.

FAQs about Earth's Motions, Latitude, Longitude and Time – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 2

What causes the change of seasons on Earth?
Seasons change because the Earth revolves around the Sun with its axis tilted in a fixed direction. This changes how directly the Sun's rays fall on each hemisphere through the year.
Where does India's standard meridian pass?
India's standard meridian, at 82 and a half degrees east, passes near Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.
What happens on the equinoxes?
On about 21 March and 23 September, the Sun's rays fall directly on the Equator. Day and night are then nearly equal all over the Earth.
What is the circle of illumination?
The circle of illumination is the imaginary circle that divides the lit half of the Earth from the dark half. It separates day from night.
