Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 25-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 25 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Plate Tectonics, Volcanoes and Earthquakes GK Practice Quiz Level 1

This Level 1 GK quiz helps a student build a clear base on how continents moved, why plates collide and what causes earthquakes and volcanoes. It covers Pangaea, continental drift, plate boundaries, earthquake measurement and the main volcano types. Aptitude360 explains the answer to every question.

What this plate tectonics basics quiz covers

  • Pangaea, Panthalassa, Laurasia and Gondwanaland
  • Wegener's continental drift theory and the later theory of plate tectonics
  • Divergent, convergent and transform boundaries and subduction zones
  • Focus and epicentre of an earthquake, the seismograph, and the Richter and Mercalli scales
  • Shield, composite and caldera volcanoes, and the Deccan Traps
  • Endogenic and exogenic forces

Core ideas on volcanoes and earthquakes to remember

  • The Richter scale measures magnitude, while the Mercalli scale measures intensity or visible damage
  • New crust forms at divergent boundaries and is destroyed at convergent boundaries
  • The Himalayas rose when the Indian plate collided with the Eurasian plate
  • Hawaiian volcanoes are shield volcanoes, and the Deccan Traps came from flood basalt eruptions

How to revise plate tectonics basics

  • Link each boundary type to one example so that the idea stays in memory
  • Keep a short list pairing scientists with their theories
  • Learn the difference between the instrument that records earthquakes and the scales that rate them

Who this Level 1 quiz is for

Beginners in general awareness and geography who want to set up the basics before moving on to the harder levels of this series.

FAQs about Plate Tectonics, Volcanoes and Earthquakes – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 1

How does plate tectonics cause volcanoes and earthquakes?
The Earth's lithosphere is broken into moving plates, and stress building up along their boundaries is released as earthquakes, which can occur at all three boundary types. Volcanoes commonly form at divergent and convergent boundaries, where magma can rise to the surface.
What are the three types of plate boundaries?
They are divergent boundaries, where plates move apart, convergent boundaries, where plates move towards each other, and transform boundaries, where plates slide past each other.
What is the difference between the focus and the epicentre of an earthquake?
The focus is the point inside the crust where the earthquake starts. The epicentre is the point on the surface directly above it, where damage is usually greatest.
Who proposed the continental drift theory?
Alfred Wegener proposed the continental drift theory. He suggested that all continents were once joined in a single landmass called Pangaea.
