Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 25-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 25 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Metals and Non-Metals GK Practice Quiz Level 1: Properties and Alloys

This Level 1 quiz builds the foundation of metals and non-metals for general awareness: physical properties, the reactivity series, extraction steps, alloys and rust prevention. On Aptitude360 each question is short and direct, and every answer comes with an explanation that fixes the fact in memory.

What this metals and non-metals set covers

  • Physical properties: malleability, ductility, conduction of heat and exceptions like mercury, gallium and caesium
  • Soft metals cut with a knife and why sodium and potassium are kept in kerosene
  • Nature of oxides: basic metal oxides, acidic non-metal oxides and amphoteric oxides of zinc and aluminium
  • Reactivity series and why gold and silver occur in the free state
  • Extraction terms: ores, roasting, calcination, thermit reaction and electrolytic refining
  • Alloys and protection: brass, bronze, steel, solder, amalgam, galvanisation and chrome plating

Key concepts for metals and non-metals basics

  • Exceptions are tested often: graphite conducts electricity, diamond is the hardest natural substance
  • Roasting uses excess air for sulphide ores; calcination uses limited air for carbonate ores
  • Components of each common alloy and the purity scale of gold in carats

How to prepare for metals and non-metals questions

  • Learn the reactivity series with a mnemonic and note where hydrogen sits
  • Keep a separate list of exceptions to the general properties of metals and non-metals
  • Pair each alloy with its two or three components in a single revision sheet

Who this Level 1 quiz is for

It is a starting point for general awareness aspirants revising school chemistry, before moving to the harder levels of the series.

FAQs about Metals and Non-Metals – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 1

What is the difference between metals and non-metals?
Metals are generally lustrous, malleable, ductile and good conductors of heat and electricity, and they form basic oxides. Non-metals are usually dull, brittle and poor conductors, and they form acidic or neutral oxides.
Which metal is liquid at room temperature?
Mercury is the metal that is liquid at room temperature. Gallium and caesium have such low melting points that they melt on the palm of the hand.
Which non-metal conducts electricity?
Graphite, an allotrope of carbon, is the non-metal that conducts electricity. Diamond, another allotrope of carbon, does not.
What is an amphoteric oxide with example?
An amphoteric oxide reacts with both acids and bases to form salt and water. Aluminium oxide and zinc oxide are common examples.
