Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 35-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 35 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Ecology and Environment GK Practice Quiz Level 3 on Energy Flow and Ozone

This Level 3 Ecology and Environment GK quiz on Aptitude360 tests harder concepts in ecosystems, energy flow, food chains, biological magnification and ozone depletion. Many questions use statement, matching and sequencing formats. You need to apply energy transfer rules across trophic levels and connect pollutants with their effects.

Topics covered in this Ecology and Environment set

  • Biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem, including an aquarium as a model ecosystem
  • Producers, herbivores, carnivores and decomposers, and the trophic level each occupies
  • One-way energy flow, energy lost as heat and the average share passed to the next level
  • Food chains and food webs in pond and terrestrial ecosystems
  • Biological magnification of non-biodegradable pesticides up to top consumers
  • Ozone structure, ultraviolet shielding, CFCs and the UNEP agreement to freeze CFC production
  • Biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, food preservatives and common pollutants

Key ecology concepts to revise

  • Why energy does not return to a lower trophic level while nutrients are recycled
  • The small share of sunlight that green plants trap as food energy
  • Ordering organisms by expected pesticide concentration along a food chain
  • How CFCs released from refrigerants and fire extinguishers thin the ozone layer

Revision tips for ecology and environment GK

  • Work through energy transfer sums step by step, dividing by ten at each trophic transfer
  • Draw a pond food chain and label the trophic level and role of each organism
  • Keep a short table that pairs each substance with its effect, such as CFCs with ozone depletion

Who this Level 3 ecology set suits

This set suits General Awareness and Biology aspirants who have finished the basics and want harder, application-based practice on ecology.

FAQs about Ecology and Environment – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 3

What is biological magnification in ecology?
Biological magnification is the build-up of non-biodegradable chemicals, such as some pesticides, at each higher level of a food chain. Top consumers such as humans end up with the highest concentration.
Why does energy decrease along a food chain?
At each trophic level, organisms use much of the energy for life processes and lose a large part as heat. On average only about one tenth of the food energy passes to the next level.
What are the biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem?
Biotic components are living organisms such as plants, animals and decomposers. Abiotic components are non-living factors such as temperature, rainfall, soil, water and minerals.
Which chemicals cause depletion of the ozone layer?
Chlorofluorocarbons, known as CFCs, are the main cause of ozone depletion. They were widely used as refrigerants and in fire extinguishers.
