Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 35-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 35 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Earth's Motions, Latitude, Longitude and Time Practice Quiz: Level 3

This Level 3 geography quiz covers the Earth's rotation and revolution, the grid of latitudes and longitudes, and the calculation of local and standard time. Aptitude360 combines time-conversion problems with statement, matching and sequencing questions on solstices, equinoxes and heat zones. Every answer comes with an explanation.

What this Latitude, Longitude and Time set tests

  • Rotation and the circle of illumination, revolution and leap years
  • Tilt of the Earth's axis and how it causes seasons
  • Solstices and equinoxes, and the position of the Sun's vertical rays through the year
  • Major lines of latitude, their order from north to south and the hemispheres they create
  • The Prime Meridian at Greenwich and the Indian Standard Time meridian through Mirzapur
  • Local time east and west of Greenwich, and conversions between GMT and IST
  • Torrid, Temperate and Frigid heat zones and their boundaries

Key concepts on Earth's motions and time to revise

  • The time difference that corresponds to each degree of longitude
  • Places east of Greenwich are ahead in time and places west are behind
  • Which hemisphere tilts towards the Sun at the June and December solstices
  • Locating a place in a heat zone from its latitude

Revision tips for latitude and longitude questions

  • Before you calculate a time, decide whether the place lies east or west of the reference meridian
  • Draw a single sketch showing the tropics, the polar circles and the heat zones
  • Learn the solstice and equinox dates in calendar order so sequencing questions are easier

Who this Level 3 geography quiz is for

This set suits general awareness aspirants who have covered the basics of Earth's motions and the global grid and want harder practice with time calculations and mixed statement questions.
