Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 50-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 50 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Counting Figures Level 1 Reasoning Practice Quiz for Beginners

Counting Figures Level 1 is a beginner logical reasoning set for students starting non-verbal reasoning. It covers counting triangles, squares and rectangles in a figure and finding the minimum number of straight lines needed to draw it. Aptitude360 gives a worked solution for every question that shows the count step by step.

What the Level 1 counting figures questions test

  • Counting every triangle in a given figure
  • Counting squares of all sizes
  • Counting rectangles with squares included in the total
  • Finding the minimum number of straight lines needed to draw a figure

Basic counting formulas for regular figures

  • Triangle with base cut into \( n \) parts by lines from the apex: \( \dfrac{n(n+1)}{2} \)
  • Squares in an \( n \times n \) grid: \( \dfrac{n(n+1)(2n+1)}{6} \)
  • Rectangles in an \( m \times n \) grid: \( \dfrac{m(m+1)n(n+1)}{4} \)

Revision tips for counting figures at the basic stage

  • Label every corner and intersection with a letter before you start counting
  • Count shapes by size: single pieces first, then shapes made of two, three or more pieces
  • Write each shape by its corner letters so that none is counted twice
  • Use a formula only when the figure is a clean grid or a fanned triangle

Who should start with this set

Aspirants who are new to counting figures can use it to learn a systematic counting method before moving on to more crowded figures.

FAQs about Counting Figures Practice Questions with Detailed Solutions – Level 1

What is the trick to count triangles in a figure?
Label all points, then count triangles made of one piece, then those made of two pieces, and so on. Listing each triangle by its three corner letters stops you counting it twice.
How many squares are there in a 4 by 4 grid?
There are 30 squares: 16 small, 9 of size two, 4 of size three and 1 large square.
Are squares counted as rectangles in reasoning questions?
Yes. A square is a special rectangle, so when a question says squares included you add the squares to the rectangle count.
Is there a formula for counting figures?
Formulas work for regular figures such as square grids or a triangle divided by lines from its apex. Irregular figures need a careful labelled count.

50 across 50 questions.
Negative marking
A wrong answer costs marks. Leaving a question unanswered costs nothing.
Attempts
100 in total. An attempt is spent the moment you begin one.

What you get when you submit

The analysis is ready the moment you submit the paper.

Score and accuracy

Marks, percentage, right, wrong and skipped, and the time you took.

Section by section

The same figures for each section, so a weak one cannot hide in an average.
