Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 30-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 30 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Clouds, Rainfall and Cyclones MCQs: Level 2 Geography Practice

For learners who know the basics and now want exam-style questions, this Level 2 set on Aptitude360 covers condensation, clouds, rainfall types and cyclones. The questions use statements, list matching and sequencing, so you have to compare features rather than recall single names. Every question has a written solution.

Themes tested in this Level 2 weather set

  • Humidity, saturation, dew point and the steps in the formation of dew
  • Matching cirrus, cumulus, stratus and nimbus clouds with their height and appearance
  • Stages of convectional and orographic rainfall, and the windward and leeward sides of mountains
  • The eye and eye wall of tropical cyclones, and storm surges
  • Why cyclones do not form at the equator, and regional cyclone names
  • Tropical versus extra-tropical cyclones, thunderstorms and tornadoes

Key ideas for statement and matching questions

  • Tropical cyclones are more destructive, while extra-tropical cyclones cover a larger area and move from west to east
  • The absence of the Coriolis force at the equator stops cyclones forming there
  • Cyclones weaken over land because they lose their supply of warm, moist air
  • Nimbus clouds are dark and low, while cirrus clouds are high and always white

How to prepare cloud and cyclone topics

  • Write rainfall formation as numbered steps so the order of stages is easy to recall
  • Keep a two-column comparison of tropical and extra-tropical cyclones
  • Revise regional cyclone names on a world map, pairing each name with its ocean

Who this Level 2 set suits

It suits general awareness aspirants who have finished the first level or the basics of weather geography and want practice with mixed question formats.

FAQs about Clouds, Rainfall and Cyclones – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 2

Why do cyclones not form at the equator?
The Coriolis force is absent at the equator, so winds cannot be set spinning around a low-pressure centre. Tropical cyclones therefore form a little away from the equator.
What is the difference between tropical and extra-tropical cyclones?
Tropical cyclones form over warm tropical oceans and are more violent. Extra-tropical cyclones form in middle latitudes, cover a larger area and move from west to east.
What is a rain-shadow area?
A rain-shadow area is the leeward side of a mountain, which receives little rain. Air that has already shed its moisture on the windward side descends and warms there.
What are cyclones called in different regions?
They are called typhoons in the Western Pacific and South China Sea, hurricanes in the Atlantic region, willy-willies in Western Australia and cyclones in the Indian Ocean.
