Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 25-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 25 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Clouds, Rainfall and Cyclones GK Quiz for Beginners: Level 1

Aimed at students starting weather geography, this Level 1 GK quiz on Aptitude360 covers condensation, cloud types, kinds of rainfall and tropical cyclones. It uses direct one-line questions on dew, fog, cloud names, orographic rain and the regional names of cyclones. Every question has a written solution.

What this clouds and rainfall quiz covers

  • Dew point, saturation, dew, frost, fog and smog
  • Cirrus, stratus, cumulus and nimbus clouds and how to recognise each
  • Convectional, orographic and cyclonic rainfall, windward slopes and rain-shadow areas
  • The calm eye of a tropical cyclone and storm surges along coasts
  • Typhoons, hurricanes, willy-willies and cyclones by region
  • Thunderstorms, tornadoes and extra-tropical cyclones

Basic weather concepts to learn first

  • When the dew point is below freezing, water vapour forms frost; above freezing, it condenses as dew
  • Orographic rain is also called relief rain, and cyclonic rain is also called frontal rain
  • Tropical cyclones gain strength over warm oceans and weaken after reaching land
  • The doldrums are the calm equatorial low-pressure belt

Tips to remember cloud and cyclone facts

  • Link each cloud name to one image: feathery cirrus, cotton-wool cumulus, layered stratus, dark nimbus
  • Make a small world map table of cyclone names and their ocean regions

Who this Level 1 quiz is for

It suits school students and beginners preparing for general awareness sections who are learning weather geography for the first time.

FAQs about Clouds, Rainfall and Cyclones – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 1

What is dew point?
Dew point is the temperature at which air becomes saturated with water vapour. If the dew point is below freezing, frost forms; if it is above freezing, dew forms.
What are the four main types of clouds?
The four main types are cirrus, cumulus, stratus and nimbus. Cirrus are thin and feathery, cumulus look like cotton wool, stratus are layered, and nimbus are dark rain-bearing clouds.
What is orographic rainfall?
Orographic or relief rainfall occurs when moist air strikes a mountain, rises, cools and condenses. The windward side gets heavy rain while the leeward side stays in a rain-shadow area.
What is the eye of a cyclone?
The eye is the calm, nearly cloudless area at the centre of a tropical cyclone. It is surrounded by the eye wall, where the winds and rain are strongest.
