Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 50-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 50 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Algebraic Identities Practice Quiz Level 1: Squares, Cubes and Sums

This is Level 1 of the Algebraic Identities practice set on Aptitude360, covering the standard square, cube and three-variable identities used in quantitative aptitude. Questions ask you to find unknown expressions from given sums and products, calculate large squares and cubes quickly, and simplify decimal fractions, with a worked solution for each.

Topics covered in this Algebraic Identities set

  • Sum of squares and square of a difference from a given sum and product
  • Difference of squares for fast mental calculation
  • Squares and cubes of numbers close to a hundred or a thousand
  • Expressions in a variable and its reciprocal, up to cubes
  • Square of a trinomial and coefficients in its expansion
  • Sum of three cubes minus three times their product, including the case when the sum is zero
  • Simplifying decimal fractions with sum and difference of cubes, and factorising a sum of cubes

Key algebraic identity formulas for Level 1

  • Square of a sum: \( (a+b)^{2}=a^{2}+2ab+b^{2} \)
  • Difference of squares: \( a^{2}-b^{2}=(a+b)(a-b) \)
  • Sum of cubes: \( a^{3}+b^{3}=(a+b)(a^{2}-ab+b^{2}) \)
  • Trinomial square: \( (a+b+c)^{2}=a^{2}+b^{2}+c^{2}+2(ab+bc+ca) \)
  • Reciprocal square: \( x^{2}+\dfrac{1}{x^{2}}=\left(x+\dfrac{1}{x}\right)^{2}-2 \)
  • If \( a+b+c=0 \): \( a^{3}+b^{3}+c^{3}=3abc \)

Revision tips for algebraic identities

  • Write a number near a round base as the base plus or minus a small value before squaring or cubing.
  • When three values add up to zero, use the sum-of-cubes shortcut instead of cubing each one.
  • Spot the sum or difference of cubes pattern in decimal fractions; the expression usually cancels to a simple sum or difference.

Who should take Algebraic Identities Level 1

Students starting quantitative aptitude for SSC, banking or management entrance exams who need a firm grip on the basic identities.

FAQs about Algebraic Identities Practice Questions with Detailed Solutions – Level 1

What are the standard algebraic identities?
The standard identities include the square of a sum, the square of a difference, the difference of squares, and the cube of a sum or difference. The sum and difference of cubes and the square of a trinomial are also standard.
What is the formula of a cube plus b cube?
a cube plus b cube equals (a plus b) multiplied by (a squared minus ab plus b squared). It can also be written as (a plus b) cubed minus three ab times (a plus b).
How do you find x square plus one by x square from x plus one by x?
Square the value of x plus one over x and subtract two. This works because the middle term of the expansion is always two.
What is the difference between an identity and an equation?
An identity is true for every value of its variables, while an equation is true only for particular values. For example, a squared minus b squared always equals (a plus b) times (a minus b).

50 across 50 questions.
Negative marking
A wrong answer costs marks. Leaving a question unanswered costs nothing.
Attempts
100 in total. An attempt is spent the moment you begin one.

What you get when you submit

The analysis is ready the moment you submit the paper.

Score and accuracy

Marks, percentage, right, wrong and skipped, and the time you took.

Section by section

The same figures for each section, so a weak one cannot hide in an average.
