Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 50-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 50 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Polynomials and Remainder Theorem Level 1 Practice: Factor Theorem Basics

This Level 1 set is meant for beginners starting polynomials, whether revising school algebra or building a base for aptitude exams. On Aptitude360 it covers the degree of a polynomial, remainders, the factor theorem, factorising quadratics and cubics, zeroes and their relation with coefficients, and the HCF and LCM of polynomials.

Topics in this polynomials Level 1 set

  • Degree of a polynomial, including products and powers of polynomials
  • Remainder on dividing by a linear expression using the Remainder Theorem
  • Finding an unknown coefficient when a linear expression is a factor
  • Factorising quadratics by splitting the middle term and cubics using one known factor
  • Sum and product of zeroes and forming a quadratic from given zeroes
  • HCF and LCM of simple polynomials

Key formulas for remainder and factor theorem questions

  • Remainder Theorem: remainder on dividing \( p(x) \) by \( x-a \) is \( p(a) \)
  • Factor Theorem: \( x-a \) is a factor if \( p(a)=0 \)
  • Sum of zeroes of \( ax^{2}+bx+c \): \( \alpha+\beta=-\dfrac{b}{a} \)
  • Product of zeroes of \( ax^{2}+bx+c \): \( \alpha\beta=\dfrac{c}{a} \)
  • Product of zeroes of \( ax^{3}+bx^{2}+cx+d \): \( \alpha\beta\gamma=-\dfrac{d}{a} \)
  • Quadratic from zeroes: \( x^{2}-(\alpha+\beta)x+\alpha\beta \)

How to revise polynomial basics

  • Set the linear divisor equal to zero, then substitute the resulting value of x into the polynomial; the polynomial's value is the remainder.
  • For a cubic, test small integer values that divide the constant term to find the first factor.
  • Factorise both polynomials fully before finding their HCF or LCM.
  • Remember that a polynomial of a given degree has at most that many zeroes.

Who this level suits

Students new to polynomials, including those preparing the algebra part of quantitative aptitude, who need firm basics before moving to the next level.

FAQs about Polynomials and Remainder Theorem Practice Questions with Detailed Solutions – Level 1

What is remainder theorem in polynomials?
The Remainder Theorem says that when a polynomial p of x is divided by x minus a, the remainder equals p of a. You find the remainder by substitution instead of long division.
What is the difference between remainder theorem and factor theorem?
The Remainder Theorem gives the remainder as p of a. The Factor Theorem is a special case: x minus a is a factor of p of x exactly when p of a equals zero.
How do you find the sum and product of zeroes of a quadratic polynomial?
For a x square plus b x plus c, the sum of zeroes is minus b divided by a and the product is c divided by a.
How many zeroes can a polynomial of degree n have?
A polynomial of degree n has at most n zeroes. Some of these may repeat or may not be real.

Marking & rules

Total marks
50 across 50 questions.
Negative marking
A wrong answer costs marks. Leaving a question unanswered costs nothing.
Attempts
100 in total. An attempt is spent the moment you begin one.

What you get when you submit

The analysis is ready the moment you submit the paper.

Score and accuracy

Marks, percentage, right, wrong and skipped, and the time you took.

Section by section

The same figures for each section, so a weak one cannot hide in an average.
