Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 50-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 50 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Word Building and Social Intelligence Level 1 Practice Quiz

This Level 1 set builds two basic verbal reasoning skills: handling the letters and order of words, and choosing sensible responses to everyday social situations. It covers forming words from a longer word, unscrambling jumbled letters, dictionary order, logical word sequences and behaviour at school, home and work. Aptitude360 provides a worked solution for every item in this set.

Skills covered in this Level 1 word building set

  • Checking which words can or cannot be made from the letters of a given word
  • Unscrambling jumbled letters into names of animals, colours, Indian cities and planets
  • Arranging words in English dictionary order and spotting the word at a given position
  • Logical sequences such as stages of plant growth, units of time and house to country
  • Social situations such as comforting an upset colleague, returning extra change and including a new student

Basic word building and social intelligence concepts

  • Each letter of the given word can be used only as many times as it appears in it
  • Dictionary order compares words letter by letter, and a word that forms the start of a longer word comes first
  • Logical sequences follow a natural order of growth, process or size
  • The best social response is honest and polite, and it solves the problem without aggression

Revision tips for beginner word and situation questions

  • Strike off the letters of the given word one by one while testing each option
  • Find the first letter where two words differ before deciding their dictionary position
  • In situation questions, reject options that ignore, blame or embarrass someone

Who should start with this set

Students who are new to verbal and basic reasoning can use this level to learn the question types before moving on to the harder levels.

FAQs about Word Building and Social Intelligence Practice Questions with Detailed Solutions – Level 1

What is word building in reasoning?
Word building tests whether you can form, unscramble or order words using given letters. Common types are forming words from a longer word, solving jumbled letters and arranging words in dictionary order.
What is social intelligence?
Social intelligence is the ability to understand people's feelings and behave wisely in social situations. Reasoning tests check it through situations where you choose the most appropriate response.
How do you solve jumbled letter questions?
Look for common letter pairs and endings, then use the hint given, such as an animal, colour or city, to narrow the word. Check that the final word uses every given letter exactly once.
How do you arrange words in dictionary order?
Compare the words letter by letter from the left and order them by the first letter where they differ. If one word is the start of another, the shorter word comes first.
