Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 40-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 40 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

What this tells you: course of action

  • First priority: Reading Comprehension, Fill in the Blanks and Word Usage & Swap, roughly 62% of the questions between them.
  • Keep in rotation: Idioms & Phrases, Para Completion, Sentence Improvement and Para Jumbles, a steady 35% that rewards regular practice once the first group feels comfortable.
  • Save for the end: 1 one-question topic (2% of the questions). Skim that topic last rather than building long study blocks around it.
  • Splitting your study time: out of every 10 study sessions on this section, about 5 for the first group, 4 for the keep-in-rotation group and 1 for the leave-for-last group.

Key grammar and vocabulary concepts to revise

  • Redundant expressions such as reverting back or returning back
  • Subject-auxiliary inversion after never, seldom and hardly
  • Common idioms describing behaviour, ease of a task and pushing through hard work

FAQs about IPMAT Indore 2022 Verbal Ability PYQs

How to solve para jumbles quickly
Find the sentence that introduces the topic without referring back to anything, then link the rest using pronouns, connectors and the flow from general to specific. Mandatory pairs of sentences narrow the options fast.
Is reverted back grammatically correct
No. Revert already means to go back, so adding back is redundant. The correct form is simply reverted to its original state.
Never once he complained or never once did he complain
Never once did he complain is correct. When an adverb such as never starts a sentence, the auxiliary verb comes before the subject, and the main verb stays in its base form.
What are climacteric fruits
Climacteric fruits keep ripening after they are picked because of a rise in respiration and ethylene production. Bananas, apples and avocados are examples, while grapes and cherries are non-climacteric.
