Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 25-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 25 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Ecology and Environment GK Practice Quiz Level 1: Ecosystem Basics

This Level 1 quiz checks your understanding of how an ecosystem works, from biotic and abiotic components to food chains, food webs and trophic levels. It also covers energy flow, biological magnification of pesticides, the ozone layer and biodegradable waste. Aptitude360 keeps the questions direct and factual, and explains every answer.

What this Ecology and Environment set covers

  • Biotic and abiotic components of an ecosystem
  • Producers, consumers such as herbivores and carnivores, and decomposers
  • Food chains, food webs and the idea of trophic levels
  • Energy flow from the Sun through green plants and energy lost as heat
  • Biological magnification of non-degradable pesticides
  • Ozone, ultraviolet radiation, CFCs and UNEP
  • Biodegradable and non-biodegradable substances

Core environment concepts for GK revision

  • Why energy flow in an ecosystem is one-way while nutrients are recycled
  • Why food chains usually stay short
  • Why humans, at the top of food chains, gather the most pesticide residue
  • How bacteria and fungi return simple substances to the soil

How to revise ecology basics

  • Draw one simple food chain and label each trophic level, producer and consumer
  • Learn the energy transfer rule between trophic levels alongside the reason energy is lost as heat
  • Keep the ozone story in order: CFC uses, falling ozone levels, then the UNEP agreement

Who this quiz is for

Beginners preparing General Awareness for SSC, railway, banking and state-level exams, as a first pass before tougher statement-based ecology questions.

FAQs about Ecology and Environment – GK Quiz with Answers – Level 1

What is an ecosystem in ecology and environment?
An ecosystem is formed by all the interacting living organisms of an area together with its non-living components such as air, water, soil and temperature.
What is the difference between a food chain and a food web?
A food chain is a single series of organisms in which each feeds on the one before it. A food web is the branching network formed when many food chains are interconnected.
What is biological magnification?
Biological magnification is the build-up of non-degradable chemicals such as pesticides at each trophic level of a food chain. Organisms at the top, including humans, carry the highest concentration.
Why is the ozone layer important?
Ozone in the upper atmosphere shields the earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation of the Sun, which can cause skin cancer. Its depletion has been linked mainly to CFCs.
