Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 60-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 60 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Order and Ranking Level 3 Reasoning: Advanced Practice Set

This Level 3 order and ranking set trains multi-step position reasoning, where a single clue changes the whole arrangement. Problems involve interchanges, minimum row size with overlapping positions, people moving within a row, stacks of books and files, and six-person comparison chains. Aptitude360 provides a worked solution for every problem.

What this Level 3 ranking set covers

  • Row totals worked out after two persons interchange positions
  • Minimum number of persons in a row when positions overlap
  • Persons moving several places left and right, and the midway position
  • Class ranks after students leave, fail or stay absent
  • Vertical stacks of books, files and boxes counted from top and bottom
  • Height, weight, age and test-score chains with clues such as heavier than only two persons

Rules worth knowing for tougher ranking problems

  • Total from one person's two positions: \( N = L + R - 1 \)
  • Total after an interchange: \( N = L_{A}' + R_{B} - 1 \)
  • Gap between two positions from the same end: \( |L_{A} - L_{B}| - 1 \)
  • A left of B, k between: \( N = L_{A} + R_{B} + k \)
  • B left of A, k between: \( N = L_{A} + R_{B} - k - 2 \), if \( L_{A}, R_{B} \ge k+2 \)

How to revise advanced order and ranking

  • Test both arrangements, with and without overlap, whenever a minimum or maximum is asked.
  • Update each person's position step by step when people move or leave.
  • Translate 'heavier than only two' into an exact rank before combining it with other clues.
  • For stacks, treat top and bottom like the two ends of a row.

Who this set is for

Reasoning aspirants who are comfortable with the earlier levels of this series and want harder multi-condition practice on row positions, ranks and comparison chains.

FAQs about Order and Ranking Practice Questions with Detailed Solutions – Level 3

How do you find the minimum number of persons in a row?
Check whether the two given positions can overlap. When they overlap, the persons counted between them are shared, so the row can be smaller than the simple sum suggests, provided each position is large enough to allow the overlap.
How do you solve interchange problems in order and ranking?
After the interchange, the first person occupies the second person's old place. Add the first person's new position from the left to the second person's original position from the right, then subtract one to get the total.
What is the trick for comparison-based ranking reasoning?
Write every clue as a chain from highest to lowest and merge the chains. Clues such as taller than only one person fix an exact rank, so place those first.
What skills do order and ranking reasoning questions test?
They test how well you track positions from both ends of a row or stack, convert ranks into totals, and combine comparison clues into a single order. Harder problems add movement, interchanges and overlapping positions.
