Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 120-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 120 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

CLAT 2023 Question Paper PYQ: All Five Sections with Detailed Solutions

This is the actual CLAT 2023 UG question paper, held on 18 December 2022, taken from the official question booklet and checked against the Consortium of NLUs' final answer key. Question 144 was withdrawn by the Consortium, and ten more (2, 7, 19, 22, 34, 100, 138, 143, 148 and 149) are left out because their official answers are disputed or cannot be worked out from the paper's own data. Every other question has a worked solution.

Passages and topics in the CLAT 2023 PYQs

  • English Language: growing up as a reader in a small town near Kalimpong, the Keeladi excavations and the origins of urban life in India, the internet and self-expression, water tankers on the banks of the Yamuna, English and class in India, and a fantasy story extract
  • Current Affairs including GK: Droupadi Murmu's election as President, Google's LaMDA chatbot and AI sentience, FIFA's ban on rainbow armbands at the 2022 World Cup, the collapse of the crypto exchange FTX, and the growth of India's agriculture sector

  • Logical Reasoning: currency depreciation, the post-truth era and public trust in information, developed countries' return to fossil fuels, ageism and women at work, and negativity bias in the news
