IIMB UGAT 2027: Eligibility, Exam Pattern, Marking Scheme & Selection Process (Complete Guide)

The IIMB Undergraduate Admissions Test (UGAT / UG-AT) 2027 is a national-level computer-based entrance exam conducted by IIM Bangalore for admission to its undergraduate programmes. Launched in July 2025 for the academic cycle 2027–2031, it offers two programmes: B.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics with a Minor in Data Science & Business Studies, and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Data Science with a Minor in Economics & Business Studies. The institute offers 4-year residential courses, though students have an exit option after 3 years with a Bachelor's degree. The programme is hosted at the Jigani campus near Bannerghatta National Park, Bengaluru.

The current cohort size is small, with 40 students in each course. Currently, only the fees for the first two years are available, which are ₹8.5 lakh per annum; for the third and fourth years of the degree, there will be a significant increase in the fees.

Selection Process

Final Selection in IIMB UGAT 2027

IIMB-UGAT follows a merit-based admission process where IIM Bangalore releases a shortlist; following this, students undergo a Personal Interview (PI). The shortlist is solely based on the IIMB-UGAT test score. For this stage, the overall cutoff is the deciding factor, and no sectional cutoffs are taken into consideration.

IIM Bangalore releases its final merit list based on a composite score, which is calculated as follows:

  • UGAT Score: 60%
  • Personal Interview (PI): 40%

Frequently Asked Questions

IIMB UGAT (Undergraduate Admissions Test) is a national-level computer-based entrance exam conducted by IIM Bangalore for its two 4-year undergraduate programmes: B.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics with a Minor in Data Science & Business Studies, and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Data Science with a Minor in Economics & Business Studies. Both programmes are residential and hosted at the Jigani campus near Bannerghatta National Park, Bengaluru. The official programme page is available at iimb.ac.in/ugat.

Mathematics is mandatory. Unlike IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak, or JIPMAT, IIMB UGAT specifically requires candidates to have studied Mathematics as a subject in their Class 12 (or +2) education. Students from Commerce or Arts streams who did not take Maths are not eligible, regardless of their overall academic performance. This is the single most important eligibility check before applying.

IIMB UGAT is a 120-minute computer-based test with 60 multiple-choice questions across three sections: English Comprehension (15 questions), Logical Reasoning (15 questions), and Quantitative Aptitude + Data Interpretation (30 questions). The marking scheme is +3 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong answer. The QA+DI section carries 50% of the total marks, making it the single most decisive section in the exam. No sectional time limits are imposed — candidates can freely switch between sections within the 120-minute window.

Only the overall score is considered for shortlisting. IIM Bangalore does not apply sectional cutoffs at the shortlisting stage. The shortlist for Personal Interview (PI) is released solely on the basis of the overall IIMB UGAT score. However, the final merit list is a composite of UGAT Score (60%) and Personal Interview (40%), so both components ultimately matter for admission.

Both are eligible. Students currently appearing for their Class 12 board exams can apply, provided their results are available before the final admission process. Students who have already passed Class 12 can also apply, as long as they meet the age limit (under 20 years for General/OBC-NCL/EWS; under 22 years for SC/ST/PwD) and the minimum percentage criteria (60% in both Class 10 and 12 for General; 55% for SC/ST; 40% for PwD).

There are three key differences. First, degree type: IPMAT Indore and JIPMAT award a 5-year dual BBA+MBA degree, placing you at MBA-level placements on graduation. IIMB UGAT awards a 4-year B.Sc. (Hons.) — a strong undergraduate degree, but most students will need a separate postgraduate programme for top-tier corporate entry. Second, Maths is mandatory for UGAT but not for IPMAT or JIPMAT. Third, the QA section in UGAT covers Class XII-level Mathematics including Calculus and Statistics, which goes significantly deeper than IPMAT or JIPMAT. The IIM Bangalore brand, however, is among the top three IIMs in India, which is a meaningful advantage.

The fee for the first two years is Rs. 8.5 lakh per annum, bringing the cost for Years 1 and 2 to Rs. 17 lakh. IIM Bangalore has indicated there will be a significant increase in fees for Years 3 and 4, though exact figures have not yet been published. Based on current information, total programme cost over 4 years is expected to exceed Rs. 34 lakh in tuition alone, excluding hostel, mess, and personal expenses. Always verify the latest fee structure on the official IIM Bangalore UGAT page before finalising your financial plan.
