Normal practice, or a Simulated test

Both use the same questions. Normal practice is untimed and needs no account: choose an option and the answer and solution appear at once. The Simulated test is the real computer-based format, with one 50-minute clock, a question palette and full screen, and your score, the key and the solutions arrive when you submit.

How the two modes differ
No account needed

Normal

Untimed

Every question on one page, loading as you scroll. Choose an option and see straight away whether it was right.

  • No timer. Nothing to start and nothing to submit. Stop whenever you like.
  • Answered as you choose. Tap an option and it is marked at once, with the correct answer shown.
  • Solutions in place. The explanation, and the video where one has been added, sit under the question.
  • Open to guests. Normal practice needs no sign-in.
Real exam conditions

Simulated

Timed CBT

The computer-based test format: one clock, a question palette, and a score the moment you submit.

  • A clock that does not pause. 50 minutes from the moment you begin, and the paper is submitted for you when it reaches zero.
  • Question palette. Answered, not answered and marked for review, section by section, as the real interface has it.
  • Full screen, proctored. The test takes over the screen; leaving it three times submits the paper.
  • Answers hidden until you submit. The key, the explanations and your score all arrive together at the end.

About this test

Coordinate Geometry MCQs Level 1: Distance, Section Formula and Slopes

This Level 1 set contains basic coordinate geometry MCQs on the distance formula, section and midpoint formulas, centroid, area of a triangle, slopes, intercepts, collinearity and reflections. It suits school students and competitive exam aspirants revising the fundamentals. Aptitude360 gives a step-by-step worked solution for every question.

Topics covered in these coordinate geometry questions

  • Distance between two points, including word problems set on maps
  • Internal division of a segment and the midpoint of a line segment
  • Centroid of a triangle and finding a missing vertex from the centroid
  • Area of a triangle from its vertices and the triangle formed by a line with the axes
  • Slope, intercepts and equations of lines, including parallel and perpendicular lines
  • Collinearity of three points and reflection in the axes and the origin

Key coordinate geometry formulas for Level 1

  • Distance: \( d=\sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^{2}+(y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}} \)
  • Section formula, ratio m : n: \( x=\dfrac{mx_{2}+nx_{1}}{m+n} \)
  • Centroid x-coordinate: \( \dfrac{x_{1}+x_{2}+x_{3}}{3} \)
  • Slope, with \( x_{2}\neq x_{1} \): \( m=\dfrac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}} \)
  • Perpendicular non-vertical lines: \( m_{1}\times m_{2}=-1 \)
  • Triangle cut off by a line with intercepts a and b: \( \dfrac{1}{2}|ab| \)

Revision tips for basic coordinate geometry

  • Rewrite a line in slope-intercept form before reading its slope
  • Check collinearity by setting the triangle area formula equal to zero
  • For a line meeting both axes, find the intercepts first; the triangle area is half the absolute value of their product
  • Reflection in the x-axis changes only the sign of y, and reflection in the origin changes both signs

Who should practise this set

School students and aspirants starting the geometry part of quantitative aptitude who want to master the core formulas before harder levels.

FAQs about Coordinate Geometry MCQs with Detailed Solutions – Level 1

What is the distance formula in coordinate geometry?
The distance between two points is the square root of the sum of the squares of the differences in their x-coordinates and y-coordinates. It comes directly from the Pythagoras theorem.
How to find the centroid of a triangle in coordinate geometry?
Add the x-coordinates of the three vertices and divide by three, then do the same for the y-coordinates. The centroid divides each median in the ratio two to one from the vertex.
How do you check if three points are collinear?
Three points are collinear if the area of the triangle formed by them is zero. This test works in every case, including points on a vertical line.
What is the condition for two lines to be perpendicular?
Two non-vertical lines are perpendicular when the product of their slopes is minus one. A vertical line is perpendicular to any horizontal line.
