Selection Process
The selection process at the Indian Institute of Management Indore is multi-stage and remains highly competitive as, among the thousands of applicants, around 150 students are finally admitted to the IPM batch.
Round 1: IPMAT Aptitude Test
Admission begins with the computer-based IPMAT examination.
1. Sectional Cutoffs: Candidates must clear minimum cutoffs in all three sections — QA (SA), QA (MCQ), and Verbal Ability.
2. Positive Raw Score Requirement: A valid score in each section is mandatory for consideration.
3. Disqualification Rule: Failing to meet even one sectional cutoff leads to elimination, regardless of overall score.
Round 2: Calculation of Aptitude Test Score (ATS)
Candidates who clear sectional cutoffs are ranked using a scaled score called the Aptitude Test Score (ATS).
- Raw marks are scaled section-wise.
- Scaled scores are combined to calculate the Total ATS.
- Maximum possible ATS = 100.
- Shortlisting for the interview is based on ATS ranking.
Round 3: Personal Interview (PI)
Candidates shortlisted through ATS are invited for the Personal Interview.
Evaluation parameters include:
1. Academic knowledge (especially Class 11–12 Mathematics)
2. General awareness
3. Communication skills
4. Overall suitability and managerial potential
Minimum Performance Condition:
The panel may reject a candidate if performance in the interview is below the
required standard, even if the ATS is high.
Final Selection: Composite Score (CS)
Final admission offers are based on the Composite Score (CS).
Component | Weightage |
Aptitude Test Score (ATS) | 65% |
Personal Interview (PI) | 35% |
Total | 100% |
